Our History

The Maple Shade Arts Council (MSAC) was founded in 2012 by Jillian Starr-Renbjor, Wayne Renbjor, and a passionate group of creatives who recognized a growing gap in arts programming within the community. While sports had long been a focal point in Maple Shade, opportunities for theater and creative expression were lacking—forcing local kids to seek outlets in neighboring towns. MSAC was created to change that.

Our Journey

From day one, MSAC offered both youth and adult productions, growing stronger each year. Like many, we hit pause in 2020, but came back in 2021 with renewed energy—bringing back our beloved summer camps and children’s productions.

Who We Are

Jillian Starr-Renbjor – President & Artistic Director
Jillian has been a force in community and children’s theater for years. She trained under Tony Award-nominated Forrest McClendon at the Walnut Street Theatre and brings that same professional caliber to every MSAC production. She leads our Summer Theater Camp and Teen Show, while also teaching music and directing three theater programs at Resurrection Catholic School (RCS):

  • Broadway Beginners (K–2nd)

  • Broadway Kids (3rd–5th)

  • Middle School Musical (6th–8th)

Beyond MSAC, Jillian has spent over a decade on the Board of Burlington County Footlighters (BCF), serving as Vice President and Artistic Director, and continues to direct children’s productions for BCF.

Wayne Renbjor – Technical Director
Since MSAC’s founding, Wayne has been the engine behind the scenes—handling audio engineering, lighting design (EOS platform), set building, and web development. He’s also a long-time Board Member at BCF, where he managed sound design and web infrastructure. At RCS, Wayne leads lighting and sound, and serves as the Tech Director for Camden Catholic High School focusing on set design and construction.

Elizabeth Rancani – Treasurer & Director of Children’s Theater
Elizabeth brings both artistic and administrative strengths to MSAC. She’s a published playwright and the creative mind behind Mrs. Claus Goes On Strike, which she both wrote and directed. Elizabeth directs MSAC’s productions for children ages 6–12, helping young performers find their voice and love for the stage.

Jennifer ColmanMarketing Director & Playbills
Jen has played a key role in growing MSAC’s visibility and sustainability. She launched our ad and membership program, helping raise funds that led to new lighting equipment and production support. She also creates playbills and supports events at RCS.
